Norio SATOU, Yusaku YAGI, Tomohiko AOYAMA

Railway facilities consist of structures, trolley wires, tracks, signals, communications, etc, and these facilities used to be managed by office workers with help of many tables and diagrams. In the last few years, however, some railway companies adopted a new computerized facility management system aiming at better efficiency and higher profitability. This paper describes the first totally-computerized management system adopted for railway facilities in Japan. This system which has been introduced in JR Central features advanced high-tech functions. The description focuses especially on the inspection and maintenance subsystem in four cases where this system is used.
