In this paper, the authors focus on the method of designing retaining structures against earthquakes. This design method uses a modified procedure to evaluate active earth pressure at high seismic loads. It also takes into consideration behavior of retaining structures on liquefied and soft grounds. As a result, it has became possible to economically perform seismic design of retaining structures by assuming the elasto-plastic property based on the relationship between load and displacement of retaining structure.
