As an effective lightning surge countermeasure, it is important to know the exact lightning surge route. We have developed an economical lightning surge detector using a fuse, and have tested a lightning surge countermeasure at electronic crossing of the Yodo-line and electronic blocking system of the Kasii-line. In these field tests, severe lightning surges from the aerial cable and radio antenna entered and damaged the logic circuit.
  This paper reports on the results and those examinations, and introduces lightning protection technique.
