The Foundation brake rigging is one of the most important components for rolling stock. We investigated its characteristics through calculations and by performing brake tests on a brake performance test stand (Railway Technical Research Institute). The maximum temperature of the brake disk was 542°C when emergency brake was applied after holding brake at 200km/h on a gradient of -20%0. In this experiment, the temperature of disk was not higher than the limit for forged steel disks except on some occasions. So we suggest a scheme to lower the temperature of brake disk.
