A Study of the Young Workers' Safety Attitudes in the Fifth Year of Service

Misako MIYAHARA, Tadashi WATANABE, Ken KUSUKAMI

To make clear the safety attitude of young workers in the fifth year of service, we compared their safety attitude with that of those in the first year, and with their advisors. We investigated two tendencies in their attitude, cognitive one and behavioral one. Through a factor analysis, we obtained three factors, i.e., unruled safety behavior, ruled safety behavior and confirmation behavior when they feel uneasiness or have a question. The research proved that, with regard to these three factors, there is not difference between the fifth-year workers and the first-year workers in light of the cognitive aspect, although there is a difference in light of the behavioral aspect. Between the fifth-year and the advisors, there is a difference in the unruled safety behavior concerning the cognitive aspect, and the unruled safety behavior and the confirmation behavior concerning the behavioral aspect.
