Experimental Study of Aerodynamic Sound Generated from Simplified Models on a Flat Base

Akio SAGAWA, Jun MATSUO

This report presents acoustic characteristics of measured aerodynamic sound radiated from simplified models on a flat base. The simplified models consist of a half spheroid and three models that have spherical front surfaces. As the results of analysis on the measured sound pressure of the test models, the following conclusions have been obtained. Noise levels generated from the simplified models are almost entirely occupied by turbulent boundary layer noise. The noise from the half spheroid can be 10dB or more lower than that from other three models which have spherical front surfaces.
