Rebar Corrosion in Concrete due to Carbonation and Initially-induced Chlorides

Seiichi TOTTORI

A 5-year exposure test was carried out to observe rebar corrosion in concrete due to carbonation and initially-induced chlorides. The test results showed that the rebar corrosion rate increased under the condition of combined deterioration caused by carbonation and chlorides. After corrosion products increased to a certain degree, however, the rebar corrosion rate gradually decreased. The repair effects of epoxy-resin lining, cathodic protection and desalination/realkalization on rebar corrosion were also examined.
