The railroad ballast that forms part of railroad track with uniformly-graded crushed gravels sinks under cyclic train loads. But there are few studies that have been conducted to investigate the strength and deformation properties of railroad ballast. In this study, the strength and deformation properties observed in triaxial compression tests with a large specimen and cyclic loading tests with a full-scale model are discussed for three kinds of railroad ballast which have different particle shapes.
