Performance of Disk Brake in Snowfall

Michinori MUNESHIGE, Izumi HASEGAWA

The braking force of pneumatic brake equipment decreases when there is water, ice or snow between the surfaces of friction because it uses friction force for braking. We tested a disk brake assembly for brake performance by using two types of brake lining under low temperature conditions. As result, we found that brake performance lowers irrespective of the type of brake lining when snowproof brake is not used, and that composition brake shoes don't have much effect when snowproof brake is used.
