Dependence of Long-term Dielectric Properties of Crosslinked Polyethylene Insulated Cable on High Harmonic Voltage

Yoshinobu NAKAMICHI, Hiroyasu TODA, Kohji AJIKI

For the linear synchronous motor (LSM) type superconducting MAGLEV system, a pulse width modulation (PWM) inverter has been developed. The output voltage with a large quantity of harmonics generated by the PWM inverter is loaded onto crosslinked polyethylene insulated cables (CV cables). The dielectric strength of CV cable under the voltage containing harmonics has never been reported so far. Therefore, the dependence of long-term dielectric properties of CV-cable on the high harmonic voltage has been investigated by using power-frequency AC voltage with high-frequency components.
The paper reports the dielectric properties of CV-cable after a long term aging test.
