Interactive Guidance System for Passengers

Hiroshi MATSUBARA, Koichi GOTO, Noriko FUKASAWA

The current information service for passengers aims at showing general information, but cannot answer particular questions from particular passengers. Those who want to have some information must know where the terminal of system is by their own efforts except when they can find station crew to ask. Moreover, the information provided when accidents have happened is rather poor, so they are dissatisfied with the railway information service. This paper presents a new concept of railway information service, in which passengers can access the necessary information in an interactive mode, and the technologies to realize the concept. A guide system for visually disabled people is also described as an example of actual application.
