The finite element simulation is an appropriate choice to predict the back fill settlement due to excavation work. However, it is not feasible in practice to carry it out because the F.E.simulation requires input parameters. This paper proposes factors of the back-fill settlement due to excavation work using the numerical results obtained from a series of F.E.simulations for imaginary excavation sites. This method consists of two parts, prediction of the maximum amount of back-fill settlement and prediction of the distance from the retaining wall.
