Development of Monitor System of Gauge Change Train

Kenichi KASAI, Shodo TSUJINO, Kenichi URUGA

A project has planned to build and test a prototype three-car test gauge change train (GCT) at Transportation Technology center, Inc. (TTCI), in Pueblo, Colorado, USA. A monitor system was developed to help locomotive and test engineers of TTCI operate and test the GCT. It collects and displays various types of monitor information on the operating status of GCT, functions of onboard devices and test runs. It also reflects the features of the GCT including those of gauge changing bogie, wheel-mounted traction motor and main traction circuit system, and five types of overhead contact line power to monitor screens. It usually displays the screen of operating status, and that of gauge change information when the GCT is passing the gauge changing section.
