Magnetic Force Distribution Due to the Eddy Current Induced at the Surface of a Superconducting Magnet

Ken NAGASHIMA, Toshiki HERAI

We calculated the magnetic force distribution on the surface of a superconducting magnet during running and vibration tests on a test bed. AC magnetic fields generated by ground coils induce eddy current in the outer vessel of on-board superconducting magnet. The eddy current and high magnetic field due to the superconducting coil generate an AC magnetic force. This force will act as the origin of the heat load that evaporates the liquid helium in the superconducting magnet. We evaluated the magnetic force and moment quantitatively in each case.
