The Yamanashi Maglev Test Line completed the primary three-year test program last March and started a new five-year program from April. The technical evaluation committee of the Ministry of Transport concluded that the Maglev system had reached the level of operational feasibility. The committee also reported that more tests should be conducted on some subjects. This paper briefly shows the background of JR Maglev development and summarizes the results of the primary test program. This paper also discusses the future course of technical development according to the technical evaluation report.
