Study on Evaluation Methods of Visibility of Level Crossing

Takafumi INOUE, Hisaji FUKUDA

We can improve the precision of the visibility evaluation of level crossing, if we imitate their conditions more closely to reality, though the load of the evaluation increases. So, we evaluated the visibility of four crossings by using two techniques which had different correctness and extents of load. The first is a technique to evaluate the visibility from the sidewalk, and the other is to evaluate from a moving car. There were a large number of crossings, where the value evaluated from the sidewalk was larger than that evaluated from the car. A standard plan to evaluate the visibility was made based on the measured distance by the above methods and literature data of the distance for cars necessary to stop.
