The disk brake system is now used as one of the most important components of mechanical brake for rolling stock, However, it has several problems, such as high maintenance cost, wear, cracks and deformation. Therefore, we designed a disk brake system by using permanent magnets, which ensures the reliability of the system, without causing such problems, and tested its characteristics on the brake performance test stand (Railway Technical Research Institute). In this test, the maximum torque and maximum temperature of the brake disk was 3.3kN.m and 598°C, respectively, when full stroke-brake was applied from an initial speed of 300km/h. This temperature is lower than the limit for the brake disk. Through this test, we proved the possibility for practical use of the system.
