Extensive research and development are conducted in the field of structure technology at the Railway Technical Research Institute. Many fruitful results have already been put to practical use in railway companies. Even greater efforts will be made from now on to develop the railway structure technology, especially to improve structure design specifications and develop new maintenance technologies. This paper presents a fundamental concept and several research and development themes of structure technology in the future.
