Fabrication of Mini-bulkmagnet using High-Tc Superconductors

Hiroki KAMIJO, Hiroyuki FUJIMOTO

We have fabricated a 198mm x 99mm bulkmagnet consisting of 36 YBaCuO bulk superconductors, each 33mm x 33mm in size and 10mm in thickness, arranged in six columns and three rows and packed in one or two layers. The bulkmagnet is magnetized by the field-cooling method and the bulk superconductors are cooled by liquid nitrogen. When magnetized, the bulkmagnet attracts clips and small tools on the outer vessel surface like a permanent magnet. The magnetic field at a point 3mm distant therefrom is larger than 0.14T in the case of two-layer composition.
