Inelastic Quasi-Static Analysis to Reflect Failure Mode of Structure System Subjected to Strong Earthquake

Masato SAITOH, Masaki IKEGAME, Shiro TANAMURA

The pushover analysis, POA, has been applied as a simplified method for performance-based seismic design. This method can determine the sequence of inelastic actions, the formulation of local mechanism and the formation of a global collapse mode. In actuality, however, it has been reported in some researches that the collapse mechanism evaluated by POA often becomes different from that by the time history analysis. This difference is mainly caused by the assumption of lateral seismic force distribution. This study improves the above method and proposes a new quasistatic method, which can simulate the dynamic failure procedure of structure system accurately and adequately.
