In the superconducting magnetic levitation system, the magnetic fields by the superconducting magnets loaded on the vehicles generate eddy currents on steel bars embeded in the reinforced concrete structure. The eddy current causes a magnetic drag force. The magnetic drag force depends on various conditions. of the steel bar such as the diameter, length, direction and location. To make the relation between the drag force and above conditions clear, we measured the magnetic drag force of several types of steel bar at the Yamanashi Maglev Test Line, by integrating the force acting on the steel along the Line. This paper describes the measuring method and the test results.
