In July 2000, the Railway Dynamics Division was created in the course of reorganization of RTRI. An outline of the Division and its research activities are described in this paper. The current status of the researches promoted by the Division is also mentioned briefly. The Division comprises of four dynamics-related laboratories that have different research fields, i.e. Vehicle Dynamics Lab., Current Collection Lab., Track Dynamics Lab. and Structural Mechanics Lab. The Division is taking the initiative in the activities by RTRI researchers to review on the track-vehicle interaction phenomena in terms of maintenance cost reduction, environmental protection and safety aiming at finding new research themes.
