Review of International Standardization on Riding Comfort Evaluation of Railway Vehicles

  Recently, important standards on riding comfort evaluation of railway vehicles have been proposed by ISO and CEN. The purpose of this paper is to review the present status of standardization and clarify the problems in this field. An overview of major international standards initially given. In addition, to respond to the trend of standardization, priority tasks for Japanese railways are shown. Topics covered include co-ordinate systems for the expression of the magnitude of vibration, posture of passengers measurement point of vibration, effect of vibration frequency and some basic evaluation methods.
