This article presents an outline of technical papers registered at the World Congress on Railway Research 2001 (WCRR 2001). The congress was held from November 25 to 29, 2001, at the KolnMesses Congress Center of Cologne, Germany, attended by about 1,050 participants from 35 countries including about 100 from Japan. In total, 408 papers were presented in three types of sessions: oral sessions (40 themes, 164 papers), special poster sessions (21 themes, 113 papers) and poster sessions (35 themes, 131 papers).
