Eliminating the speed sensor in the railway vehicle traction motor is preferable from the view point of increasing reliability, reducing maintenance costs and down-sizing traction motors. We have studying to apply a sensor-less control method to induction traction motor control. This paper presents the speed-sensor-less control method and the result of the study on its application to railway vehicle traction by means of numerical simulation and experiments. In addition, we comment some points we have to pay attention on the application to the revenue trains.
