We examined the environment which is not prescribed in JIS E 6102 concretely for the measurement of the noise from a railroad traction motor. The noise was measured in a measurement environment improved with a simple sound absorption panel installed around motor. JIS prescribes that the noise shall be measured at four points 1 m distant from the surfaces of the motor into orthogonal directions. We also measured the noise at the points 1.5 m distant from the center of the motor irrespective of the motor size. It was confirmed that the measurement environment of the sound absorption panel was improved by the fact that the frequency spectra of the noise measurement results under different conditions were almost the same.
