If the composition of contact line overlap (air joint) of SHINKANSEN is not appropriate, local wear will occur on the contact wire due to strong contact force. When local wear progresses, contact wires must be replaced at early stages. If we know the relations among the overlap composition, contact force and wear, therefore, we will be able to predict wear in advance and improve the composition to decrease local wear. Thus, we investigated those relations by using the data collected with an inspection car (Doctor Yellow) and studied the method to predict the progress of wear based on the contact force.
