We are developing a protection system to eradicate the accidents related to maintenance work. This system consists of a mobile business tool carried by each worker, a terminal of the control platform temporarily installed in the maintenance car, a connector attached to the existing signalling system and a central administrative device installed at the control center. GPS is used independently to detect positions of workers and maintenance cars. Each machine can correctly grasp the geometrical relations with other workers, cars and other objects and their conditions based on the state information exchanged between the machines by the distributed control protocol, the track occupancy monitor information broadcast by the central administrative device and the line information. The protection system executes its functions on this basic structure.
