We have been developing a new light-weight and compact electric point machine for Shinkansen. The machine is the improved version of the TS type electric point machine, which widely used for Shinkansen. In contrast to the weight of the TS type electric point machine which is approximately 430 kg, the weight of the prototype of the new machine is approximately 285 kg. The switching force of the new electric point machine is equivalent to the TS type electric point machine; therefore, maintenance work would be relieved when the new electric point machine is realized.
