Development of a New Real-Time Seismograph using a New Method of the Focal Parameters Estimation Algorithm

Shinji SATO, Shunichi TAYA, Kimitoshi ASHIYA

The Railway Technical Research Institute (RTRI) is now developing an effective earthquake disaster prevention system to combine the information obtained by the earthquake observation systems of railway companies and that owned by other organizations. This paper summarizes a newly developed seismograph for early warning that will be used for the above earthquake observation system. This seismograph, which is more compact and lightweight than conventional devices, has a function to estimate the focal parameters from the measurements of the P-wave and is protected against EMI (Electromagnetic interference) and ground vibration noise based on the high-level and general-purpose data processing technologies in recent years, to allow introduction into substations and other observation points.
