A New Stability Evaluation Method for Rock Slopes based on the Analyses of Primary Causes of Rockfalls and Rock Slope Collapses

Tatsuo NOGUCHI

Since rockfalls and rock slope collapses are governed by a number of complex factors, such as lithologic anisotropy or discontinuity of rock mass, a stability evaluation method for rock slopes should be established on the basis of the technical experience of engineering geologists. In this study, therefore, I paid special attention to primary causes of rock falls and slope collapses and analyzed several types of data. By summarizing the results of examination and analysis of the mechanism to cause such disasters, I established a new evaluation method.
