This study performed Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for the Tokaido Shinkansen Line including an inventory analysis by two methods. One is to total CO₂ emissions in all processes form construction to operation, and the other is convert costs into CO₂ emissions using an input-output table and statistical traffic data. In the former method, processes were examined after devided into six categories, construction, track, electronic power, station, vehicle, and signal/communication. As a result, the CO₂ emissions calculated by the two methods were approximately the same.
