A Method for System Construction using General-Purpose Data Description Language (XML)

Shoko SUZUKI, Minoru NAGATA, Koichi GOTO

As the Internet and Intranet have become popular, systems are increasingly being developed by applying general-purpose data description technologies. Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML), a general-purpose data description language, that suits the representation of document styles, is used by World Wide Web (WWW). Data exchange systems are also being built by using the Extensible Markup Language (XML) database or XML for business applications because XML can represent not only document styles but also data meanings. This paper describes some essential features of XML and a prototype information transmission system that applies XML for train operation.
