To improve vibrating properties and workability for installation of vibration dampers on steel objects a Magnetic Rubber Damper with a Constraining Layer (MRDC), which consists of a constraining steel layer and magnetic rubber layer, has been developed. The damping performance of this MRDC is effected substantially by the frictional loss due to the relative slip motion between the magnetic rubber layer and the vibrating steel plate. To predict the damping properties of MRDC installed on the plate parts of steel railway bridges, the flexural vibration of a plate with MRDC is analyzed and an equation to calculate the loss factor is derived.
