Estimation of the Necessary Length of a Tunnel Entrance Hood Entered into by Different Kinds of Trains

Masanobu IIDA, Kaoru MURATA, Takashi FUKUDA

A method for estimating the length of a tunnel entrance hood which is a principal countermeasure for reducing micro-pressure wave is presented. In general, the effect of the entrance hood differs according to the nose shape of trains which enter into the hood. Hence, in Shinkansen where different kinds of trains run on the same line, it is necessary to design the hood considering the variety of trains. Here, the case where a new kind of a faster train is introduced into an existing line is supposed and the necessary length of the entrance hood is estimated using model experimental data.
