Development of Repainting Coating Systems Reduced of Environmental Impact

Makoto TANAKA, Takafumi ENARI

One of the serious problems in recent years is the emission of pollutants considered harmful to public health and the environment. We measured the amounts of hazardous pollutants and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are contained in paints of repainting coating systems now in use for steel structures. The results of the measurement are used to investigate environment-friendly coating systems. As a result, we were able to develop new repainting coating systems, which have no lead compounds and chromium compounds with low VOCs and long-term durability.
