To identify tasks of improvement concerning railway accessibility for elderly passengers, two surveys were conducted involving 3,400 people in total, including more than 2,200 elderly people. As a result, the surveys have proved the importance of the removal of physical and information barriers. They also have shown the importance of establishing evaluation methods for accessibility and usability of passenger services systems such as information panels, ticket vending machines, and some equipment in passenger room.
