The conventional excavation method in urban areas in more advantageous than other methods in terms of economy and the degree of freedom in selecting sectional profile if the ground condition is relatively fine and the environmental condition is not restricted. In recent years, this method is adopted widely for railway tunnel construction work in urban areas. However, the design method for tunnel lining is not established. Therefore, we proposed reasonable design method based on the limit state design technique and verified the validity of the design method.
