Static Analysis on Railway Vehicle Overturning under Crosswind

  A method of static analysis on railway vehicle overturning under crosswind is described. The basic idea is similar to solving the overturning problem of a rigid body, that is, the equations are led and solved by finding the equilibrium of the forces that act on the body. In this analysis, however, we have to consider the effect of suspension systems of the vehicle and appropriately estimate the displacement of the carbody mass center subjected to external forces. By the method presented in this paper, the critical wind velocity to overturn railway vehicles can be obtained with ease and practical accuracy.
