The superconducting magnetic levitation (Maglev) system uses a linear synchronous motor (LMS) with on-board superconducting magnets and armature coils on the ground. The power converter should be able to generate power of variable voltage and variable frequency according to the speed and thrust of the train. Therefore, we adopted a pulse width modulation (PWM) inverter at the Yamanashi Maglev Test Line. The power conversion system for the Maglev system requires a large capacity PWM inverter at high efficiency. In addition to this requirement, the manufacturing cost must be reduced. Therefore, we developed several control methods to improve the output voltage without changing the main circuit configuration.
