The Report on MAGLEV2002

Kazuo SAWADA

The 17th international conference on Magnetically-Levitated Systems "MAGLEV 2002" was held in September 2002 at Lausanne, Switzerland. This conference was sponsored by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne. This institute has been developing a unique high-speed Maglev system known as "Swissmetro", that combines partial-vacuum tunnels with linear motor propulsion. The report on the construction work of Shanghai Maglev encouraged the attendants. They were also impressed by the progress of JR Maglev development. The General Atomics Urban Maglev system was another interesting topic at this conference. This paper describes the recent status of these systems except JR Maglev.
