Bluetooth is a short-range wireless telecommunications technology to connect mobile phones, personal computers and their peripheral devices. We proposed a system to support train drivers by transmitting timetable data fault data of locomotives and voice among handy terminals, headsets and server computers by a Bluetooth communications link. We implemented some functions of prototype versions to verify its feasibility. We measured the transmission characteristics of Bluetooth between devices in the driver's room of a locomotive and alongside a track, and between those located inside and outside a freight container and then evaluated its applicable range.
