In order to find the suitable drain period of the newly introduced high performance engine oils as appropriate grades for diesel rail-cars, we have investigated the durability of the engine oils through field tests and the conditions inside the engine after such field tests. Based on the test results, we clarified that, by introducing the high performance oils, it was possible to extend the drain period to 45,000km from the current period of about 20,000km - 35,000km in terms of the running distance, while keeping the good conditions inside the engine.
