As an excellent vibration damper which is easy to install on steel vibrating objects with magnetic attractive force, we have developed a Magnetic Rubber Damper with a Constraining Layer (MRDC). The damping property of MRDC is substantially attributable to the frictional loss between the magnetic rubber layer and the steel objects. A theory to predict its damping property is derived based on the analysis of the flexural vibration of a beam with MRDC by taking the friction into consideration. Moreover, by applying the proposed theory, we designed MRDC to optimize its damping property.
