Weed control along railway lines has been an important issue for railway operation. Although mowing effectively prevents weeds from overgrowing, they regrow readily. We treated weeds on the bank of a railway with bispyribac-sodium, which inhibits the biosynthesis of amino acids in plants. The Goldenrod (Solidago altissima L.) and the kuzu vine (Pueraria labata Ohwi) were eliminated in a month after spraying the chemical. The height of grasses which remained after treated with the chemical were less than that of the untreated grasses. The biomass of the weeds in the treated area was reduced to 30% of that in the untreated area.
