Calculation of Reliability Index and Partial Safety Factor for Reinforced Soil Structures

  The paper describes an allowable reliability index and recommended load and resistance design factors for the limit state design (LSD) of reinforced soil structures by using two-wedge method. The load and resistance factors for the LSD format are calibrated rigorously by applying Advanced First Order and Second Moment method and Monte Carlo simulation with Latin Hypercube Sampling according to the conventional safety factors. It has been proved that the variability of input design parameters can be evaluated by reliability analysis rationally and quantitatively.
