The wear of contact wire is normally measured by electric inspection cars for the management of overhead contact line system. However, this method requires much time to cross-check the data with worn-out part.　To detect the wear limit of contact wire more conveniently, therefore, we are developing a method to detect the steel-core placed at the wear limit position of contact wire. We have manufactured a prototype detecting device for this purpose which is applicable to CS contact wires and confirmed that it can detect steel exposed in a CS contact wire as a result of field tests.
