Current data used for estimating the passenger flow on railways are mainly train crew's reports on the numbers of passengers and data gathered by manual investigation conducted by railway companies occasionally. These data, however, have problems such as inaccuracy or expensiveness. In this paper we propose a new method to estimate the number of train passengers who get on or off at stations by analyzing data that can be acquired from systems which have already been implemented for railway operation. These systems are automatic ticket checking system and train brake control system using the pressure values of vehicle air springs. We have analyzed actual data of these systems in several cases. The results show a good performance and availability of the proposed method.
