We investigated rail dip joints to find that there are some typical longitudinal profiles thereof. We also measured the factors related to track dynamic behaviors such as dynamic wheel loads, rail seat forces, rail and sleeper displacements at a rail joint induced by vehicles running at the speed up to 70km/h. We established a track dynamic model considering the excitation caused by wheels passing at the discontinuity of fish plate rail joints. Then we compared the measured and analytical results and obtained a good agreement in between. We calculated the influence on dynamic wheel loads of the rail surface irregularity, longitudinal profile of dip joint and longitudinal gap of the fish plate joint.
