Wind Tunnel Tests on Aerodynamic Characteristics of Train/Vehicles in Cross Winds and Effects of Wind-protection Fences

  The aerodynamic characteristics of train/vehicles in cross winds depend not only on the configuration of train/vehicles but also on those of infrastructure (bridge, embankment and others). Wind tunnel tests were implemented to investigate the aerodynamic characteristics of vehicles for uniform and turbulent flows with the boundary layer flow near the ground surface. This paper briefly describes the test results and effects of wind-protection fences.
